DRESS CODE

2009-2010

·        Students may wear solid color hoodies, sweaters or jackets inside the school as long as the hood is not covering the student's head indoors.

·        Students may wear any striped or solid color collared shirt or solid color pants, shorts, skirts, skorts or jumpers.  Shirts must be tucked in. 

·        Students may wear any Meigs-related attire including t-shirts; Meigs related t-shirts are the only t-shirts which may be worn without a collared shirt.

·        Students may wear jeans/denim as well as cargo pants/shorts provided they are not patched, ripped or have any writing or embroidered designs on them and they are worn at the waist.  Belts are suggested but not required.

·        Skirts, skorts, and shorts must extend below the fingertip. Clothing must be appropriately fitted -- not too tight and not too loose.

·        Outerwear such as long or oversized raincoats and heavy cold-weather jackets or coats may not be worn in the classroom; these items must be kept in students’ lockers.

·        All pants must be worn at the waist.  No sagging or low riding.

·        No see through type clothing is to be worn.

·        Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times. (Students may not wear flip-flops.) Sandals must have a heel strap.

·        Head coverings such as bandanas, scarves, sweatbands, caps, do-rags or hairnets are not to be worn. 

·        Torn clothing is prohibited.

·        Tattoos that display drugs, alcohol or tobacco products, gang, or sex-related words or images must not be seen at any time.

·        Chains and spiked accessories are not permissible.

·        ID badges must be in the student’s possession at all times.

 

Special Provisions

·        Approved head coverings worn as part of a student’s bona fide religious practices or beliefs shall not be prohibited under this policy.  Meigs will provide reasonable accommodation to students whose bona fide religious belief, medical condition or disability requires special clothing.

·        Meigs Magnet reserves the right to modify this policy as necessary and reserves the right to determine what might be disruptive and unsafe.

 

Dress Code Violations will be addressed through the School Discipline Plan.
